Impact of Swiss participation in individual projects

As a non-associated country, Switzerland had no access to Horizon Europe funding instruments for individual researchers and innovators during the 2021–2024 period. This SERI-commissioned report therefore examines the fundamental impact that Swiss participation in individual funding instruments of EU framework programmes has on researchers and innovators in Switzerland. The following effects are highlighted: intensified competition, reputational effect, networking effect, leverage effect and brain gain effect. This report was published as part of the overall dispatch on Swiss-EU relations.

Impact of termination of Bilateral I agreements

A SECO-commissioned study conducted by Ecoplan in 2025 analyses the long-term impact that termination of Swiss-EU Bilateral Agreements I would have on Swiss GDP. The study confirms the considerable benefits that Switzerland derives from these agreements. It also estimates how Switzerland's non-association to the Horizon package would affect the appeal of Swiss research and innovation. This report was published as part of the overall dispatch on Swiss-EU relations.
